A pure copper cable - Made in Germany The major advantages of pure OFC (oxygen-free copper) copper cables are their excellent electrical conductivity and low line resistance. Speaker cables are often advertised as "pure" copper cables, even though they only have a wafer-thin copper coating. This primarily applies to cables labeled as "CCA copper" (aluminum core with a thin copper coating) or "CCS copper" (steel cable with a thin copper coating). These cables have far worse transmission properties than OFC copper cables!. Different cable cross-sections depending on requirements . Generally speaking, the longer the speaker cable, the greater the power loss, which, however, is only noticeable in the loudness of the signal at the speaker end. Since power loss can be counteracted by increasing the cable cross-section, it is advisable to use cables with different cross-sections depending on the cable length (e.g., a larger cross-section for the rear speakers in a surround installation). For a length of 10m, the performance losses are approximately: - 0.75mm² cable: 5.25%, - 1.5mm² cable: 3.13%, - 2.5mm² cable: 1.63%, - 4mm² cable: 1.00%.
